The picture below shows the difficulty in dealing with reflected light from the stream. Notice that there is no detail in the streambed, and the extra light causes the rest of the photo to be under exposed. This was a late afternoon shot with the diffuse sunlight coming from behind the subject and causing a lot of glare. Fortunately, this light is highly polarized and a filter can solve the problem. Click on the filter to see the same shot with the polarizing filter in place. |

Notice that the filter completely blocks the reflected polarized light. You can now see the detail of the stream bed, and the reduced glare results in a much better exposure for the rest of the image.
