When we first saw this ice formation at the base of Ruth's Waterfall we thought it was snowman droppings. Do you know what it is? Click here to solve the mystery.
As the stream was freezing, water spurted up at the edge of the ice and formed scum or foam because of the suspended clay particles. The foam then froze as the water it was floating on also froze. When we touched the frozen foam, it crumbled like a very fine meringue.
