The view of Upper Gulf Creek Falls from
the point where we found one of the legs. It is 65 feet (20m) from the
top of the falls to the flat ledge above the 6 foot cascade at the bottom.
Here is our theory of the fate of the bridge: We believe that from
Ruth's Waterfall to here, the bridge survived intact. It would have
arrived at the crest feet first and its momentum would have carried
it beyond the waterfall into thin air. We believe that it landed on
the flat rock on one of the legs (the one we found) and that the entire
bridge shattered on that side. The other leg remained attached to its
beam and was carried along downstream with the rest of the wreckage.
