Waterfalls WebRing members may submit designs
to be used as the official logo for the WebRing.
We will rotate among all submitted graphics
with each submission serving as the official
logo for some period of time, maybe one month.
This will give each member a chance to be highlighted
for a period of time and lend some variety to
the look of the WebRing pages. At the same time,
the treatment of the logo will be consistent
wherever it is used so there will be a unified
identity to the WebRing for a visitor on any
given day. The WebRing administrators will substitute
the graphic files on the WebRing site each month
and no changes will be required on member
sites.
Here is how it works:
- Any member can submit designs to be used
for the logo in accordance with the specifications
listed below.
- Valid submissions are be placed in a queue
in the order received. The RingMaster may
limit each member to only one submission at
one time.
- Approximately once per month, the graphics
for the next design in the queue will be copied
onto the server. We will continue through
the queue and then start over at the beginning.
- New first-time submissions will be inserted
in the queue ahead of submissions that have
already been used.
- Members can replace their submissions anytime
except during the period when their existing
submission is in use. Replacing a submission
does not change the position in the queue.
- Members submitting designs for use as the
WebRing logo agree to thereafter use the standard
logo and linkage format on their own Waterfalls
Webring home page. (Some of the charter members
are using their own graphic and layout for
the WebRing links.) Existing members wishing
to switch to the standard linkage format willl
have to make a one-time update to the HTML
fragment on their site.
- New members joining the ring will be expected
to use the elements of the standard HTML fragment
for their webring linkage.
- The graphic images are stored on the server
containing the Waterfalls WebRing home page
and do not have to be stored on each member's
site. The HTML fragment on each member site
links to the image in its home location. Performance
for visiters will actually be faster than
if we each have our own image since the image
will be cached on the visitor's hard disk
once they have visited any member site.
Specifications for the graphic logo
- The design should be consistent with the
theme of natural waterfalls. Either photos
or drawings are acceptable.
- The design should incorporate the words
"Waterfalls WebRing" in English
using prominent and legible type and with
good contrast against the graphic image.
- Extreme colors and graphic design elements
should be avoided so that the graphic will
easily blend into members' home pages.
- The graphic and text should be suitable
for use on a light background. Where a member's
home page has a dark background, a table cell
with a light background can be used to provide
a contrasting border.
- Five versions of the design should be provided.
The following table shows an example, required
dimensions, recommended byte size, and required
name, and indicates where each version is
used.
