Map

Public trail on abandoned railway from Penn Yan to Dresden. Park in the city park on Lake Street in Penn Yan (see map). You can access the trail at several points along the way and can drive quite close to the two waterfalls. You can also access the trail at Dresden where the Keuka Lake Outlet goes under Route 14.

Hiking

This is a well maintained hiking/biking trail which follows the Keuka Lake Outlet from Penn Yan to Dresden where this large stream enters Seneca Lake. The trail is 5 miles long, one way. There are several old mill sites along the way and two dandy waterfalls: Seneca Mills and Cascade Mills.

This is a mixed use trail and is suitable for mountain bike, hybrid, or city bike. Thin-tired road bikers may not like parts of it. It is paved for about a mile in Penn Yan and the rest is smooth, well packed dirt and gravel.

Details We have done this trail several times by bike (see bike map). We start in Penn Yan and ride on back roads to Dresden; a southern route via Himrod and a northern route via Kashong Creek. We then travel back to Penn Yan on the Outlet Trail for a leisurely round trip of  2 or 3 hours.
