Sometimes we have minor arguments about which way to go. In spite of appearances, this was not one of these times since we had good directions from John at the Dolphin Bay Motel in Hilo. He had also loaned us good flashlights and a strobe light for the top of the car so we could find it when returning from the bench area in the pitch black. We drove for about 7 miles on a terrible 4wd road across the lava flow and parked about a mile from the ocean entry. We then hiked to within 100 yards of the flow and watched the show as the sun set. |
